You can take personalizing a PDF free printable to the "next level" by learning how to insert Sticky Notes. This is especially helpful if you are going to personalize the printable and email it to someone. Using "Sticky Notes" also allows you to add more text than may fit into the personalizable area.

This tutorial features Moms Break Calendar Pages, but the process is the same for adding Sticky Notes to any Moms Break PDF free printable that you can personalize.

Step 1.

Mom's Break offers calendar pages, such as the September 2008 "Elephants" page shown here, that can be personalized. If you are unsure about how to personalize a PDF printable, then review this helpful tutorial:

For the instructions for personalizing and adding Sticky Notes, go to Step 2.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 2.
Once you have downloaded the PDF personalizable printable, you can type in text wherever you see a "highlighted" area (gray or blue, depending on your monitor settings). If you don't see the highlighted area(s), then click on the "Highlight Fields" button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
To add text directly into the PDF printable, click anywhere in the highlighted area, and begin typing. As shown to the left, "Elephants never forget and neither will you!" has been typed into the blank box in the first row.
Continue to click in the highlighted areas for selected days, and type in the text desired, such as "Jason's Birthday" or "Dr. appt. 9:00am" (or any other reminder).
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 3.

Adding a Sticky Note allows you to insert more text than will fit in any day's text area.

To add a Sticky Note, click on the Sticky Note icon on the toolbar.

Once you click on the Sticky Note icon, the cursor will change to a "dialogue balloon" (like you see in cartoons).

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 4.
Position the cursor wherever it is that you want to add the Sticky Note. Hold down the mouse button and drag the mouse down and to the right (or down and to the left). You'll notice that a "box" will be created.
In the illustration to the left, and to make it easier to visualize, a Sticky Note box has been drawn around "September 2008, Animal Calendar" (click on the illustration to see the larger view).
When you have the Sticky Note box where you want it, release the mouse button.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 5.

When you release the mouse button, a yellow dialogue balloon will appear (in the illustration to the left, it is over the "S" in "September" and the actual "sticky note" will appear as a pop-up window (in the illustration to the left, see the yellow-bordered box).

Position the cursor anywhere in the white area of the sticky note and click.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 6.
Type your reminder or message in the sticky note box. You can type as much text as you like.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 7.

To close the sticky note pop-up box, click on the small box that has an underscore (_) in it, at the top right of the sticky note pop-box. After you close the sticky note box, only the yellow sticky note balloon will be visible (in the illustration to the left, it is over the "S" in September).

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 8.
To read what is in the sticky note, run the cursor over the yellow sticky note balloon. The message will appear.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 9.
You can also re-open the sticky note. Click on the yellow sticky note balloon, and the sticky note box will open. Click in the sticky note box to add more text, change the text that is there, or delete text.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 10.

You can move the sticky note balloon. To move the balloon, click on the sticky note balloon, hold down the mouse button, and drag the balloon to wherever you want it to appear.

In the illustration to the left, the sticky note balloon has been moved to the right of 2008. The message in the sticky note box stays the same.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 11.
You can delete sticky notes easily. Right click on the sticky note balloon. Click on "Delete" in the drop-down menu.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 12.

You can continue to add more sticky notes. Click on the Sticky Note icon each time you want to add a new box. Repeat Steps 3-7.

Congratulations! You've learned a new skill for using Adobe Reader to personalize PDF printables!

[Note: You can only personalize and add sticky notes to PDF files that have been "enabled" such as the PDF personalizable printables available from Moms Break. This does not necessarily appear to any PDF file that you might have.]
