Mom's Break now offers free printables in PDF format that can be personalized (starting April 2008). This is an exciting new offering by Mom's Break and expands your ability to personalize before you print. However, these PDF free printables are limited as to the font and font size that is available. With just a little bit of computer skill using Microsoft Word (or any other word processing software), you can use the PDF free printables just like you use computer printer paper to create letters or other printed documents that use all of Word's text formatting features. This skill will be easy to learn by following this illustrated, step-by-step tutorial that has been written exclusively for Mom's Break.
This tutorial provides the instructions for creating Word document templates for Mom's Break PDF Free Printable I Heart My Soldier and U.S. Flag Stationery. By creating Word document templates, you can now use these free printables as you would any other "computer printer stationery" (that is, just like regular printer paper). The link to these military printables is provided at the end of this tutorial.

This tutorial is designed
exclusively for Mom's Break
Military Stationery, specifically the "I Heart My Soldier" and "United
States Flag Stationery" printables. The link to these military
printables is provided at the end of this tutorial. Included are the instructions for creating your own Word document template. Once you learn these few skills, you can create your own Word document template for these two printables, and virtually any other Mom's Break free printable that contains a blank area big enough for text. Although the skills needed to create a Word document template are fairly easy, you may find it easier to simply download the free templates for these two military printables. Step 1: U.S. Flag
Stationery Download the "United States Flag" PDF free printable stationery from Mom's Break. If you need help with this, review this free tutorial: (The tutorial for downloading printables is written for printables that are offered as zip folders. However, the steps to download a single printable are very similar.) Open the PDF free printable stationery in Adobe Reader. If you need help with Adobe Reader or using Adobe Reader to print pages, review this tutorial: Print one blank U.S. Flag stationery page (as shown to the left). |

Step 2. To create the Word document template for this stationery, you will need to measure the top and bottom, left and right margins (as shown to the left). If you need more help with this, review a more complete tutorial for creating a Word document template for a free printable: (That tutorial uses another Mom's Break PDF Free Printable as an example. The steps to create a Word document template are exactly the same for the soldier stationery.)

Step 4. In Word, open the template you just created and type your letter (or any other text). As you can see in the example shown to the left, when you begin typing, the page will automatically start in the right place so that it will print correctly on the U.S. Flag stationery. Now, you can use all of Word features to create your text: fonts, font sizes, font colors, as well as being able to insert clipart, pictures, or symbols. Literally, anything that you can do in Word, you can now do so that it prints on the free printable that you want to use as stationery. If you need a little more help with Word, please go to another free tutorial: |

Step 5. Print more blank U.S. Flag pages (see Step 1). Now, put that page back into your printer and print the letter that you just typed (shown to left). You may need to experiment with how to put pre-printed paper into your printer so that it prints correctly. Once you determine whether to put it in face up or face down, you'll be printing your own stationery in no time! For your convenience, you can download the Word document template for the Mom's Break PDF Free Printable United States Flag stationery: This Word document will open in a new window, for your added convenience. Be sure to "Save As" and save the template to your computer!
This completes the tutorial for the Mom's Break PDF Free Printable U.S. Flag stationery. The steps for creating the Word document template for the "I Heart My Soldier" stationery are shown below, as well as a link to the downloadable Word template. |
