The free printable bookmark is a PDF file. If you are unfamiliar with PDF files, then visit Jan's FAQs (presented in cooperation with Mom's Break) to find easy-to-understand illustrated tutorials.

The rose featured in this craft has been generously provided by Mom's Break. More information about how you can get this rose graphic, along with a whole collection of rose pictures, is provided below.

For this craft, you'll need:

  • card stock (soft or muted colors, such as those shown, will be best)
  • scissors
  • curl ribbon, yarn, or cording
  • a page of laminate (the plastic film, sticky on one side), this is an option

Download the free printable Bookmark. This will open as a PDF file in a new window. Save it to your computer, and then make a note of where you've saved it. If you are using this as a group craft for a classroom, scout pack/troop, or church group, print as many as you like!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 1.
Print the free printable bookmark on card stock (which is a heavy-weight paper that you can purchase at stores like Office Depot)---use any muted color that you prefer. Trim the bookmark.
You can print the bookmark on regular computer paper, but the extra weight of the card stock will make a more long-lasting bookmark.
If you are not going to laminate the bookmark, skip to Step. 7
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 2.

Review the directions that come with the laminate (self-sealing) film. You can purchase laminate at office supply stores (like Office Depot) and craft stores (like Michaels).

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 3.
Following the directions that come with the laminate, expose some of the "sticky" side of the film. To do this, you will probably have to peel away the "backing paper" of the laminate, as shown here.
Place the bookmark onto the sticky side of the laminate. Be sure to do this carefully---once you've "stuck" it onto the film, you won't be able to get it off.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 4.

Since you will be laminating both sides of the bookmark, you might want to trim the laminate, as shown here.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 5.
Peel away the remaining backing paper, and then very carefully flip the bookmark over. Be sure to line up the top and bottom edges of the laminate paper.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 6.

Trim the laminate to about 1/4" all the way around. This will prevent the laminate from separating around the bookmark.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 7.
Punch or make a hole in the top of the bookmark, in the middle.
Cut a length of curl ribbon, yarn, or cording.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 8.

Loop the curl ribbon, yarn, or cording through the hole, and tie.

If you are using curl ribbon, use the flat blade of the scissors to curl.

This completes the tutorial for making the Mother's Day Bookmark!
