Our men and women in the military are always hungry! Many of our military survive on MRE rations (Meals, Ready to Eat).

If you are sending a package to a family member, friend, or if you are "supporting" a troop member, then you'll enjoy creating JFRE rations (Junk Food, Ready to Eat). Imagine what fun that troop member will have, pulling out his or her rations, knowing that they include a bag of their favorite junk food...a little bit of home for our guys and gals who are so far away.

Step 1.

There are always new ways to use free printables! Take these CD/DVD case labels, for example, available from Print Me Free Military Free Printables.

These are the perfect size to use as "labels" for resealable plastic bags---just perfect for make snack bags of junk food! Once printed, you can trim the "label" and put it inside a sandwich-size resealable bag.

Your family member, friend, or "pen-pal" in the military is sure to enjoy having JFRE's to add to his or her daily rations...especially if the bag is full of favorite junk food, candy, granola bars, rolls of lifesavers, packs of gum, or any other "goodie" that you can fit in a sandwich bag.

Step 2.

Of course, you can make your own "snack bag labels" by downloading the printable from Print Me Free, and personalizing in Adobe Reader (more about that a little later).

Or, you can download the JFRE ready-made label printable!

First, you will need to print blank labels. Print as many pages as you like. Get the label from Print Me Free at:

Set these aside.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 3.
Now, download the text for the labels, as illustrated to the left:
It is OK that only the text appears.
See Step 4 for printing the text on the labels.
Step 4.
To make the printed labels, as illustrated to the left:
  • Put the "Support Our Troops" printed pages back into your computer*
  • Open the JFRE Labels Text Only file
  • Print the text on the blank labels
*You may need to consult the manual for your printer in order to put the "Support Our Troops" printed pages into the printer so that the text will print properly (as shown to the left).
Now, trim the labels.
Put junk food or snack items such as hard candies that are individually wrapped, breakfast bars, granola bars, individually wrapped rolls of Lifesavers, packs of gum, or any other candy or snack item that will do well without needing refrigeration (and if your military person is deployed in the Middle East, include only candies/snacks that will do well in extreme heat).
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Our men and women always appreciate homemade cookies!

Wrap the cookies in plastic wrap before putting into the snack back so that the cookies don't "bleed" onto the printed labels!

Step 5.

Box up plenty of JFRE bags and ship to your troop member!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can personalize the Support Our Troops Labels using Adobe Reader to make your own labels! Here's some help for how to do that: Not exactly sure what a PDF is, or how to open it in Adobe Reader?
No problem! Here are the answers you're looking for!
